Teaching Statement

 

Music is a universal language that opens the possibilities to a new realm of communication through thoughts and emotions. In its progression through time, music has come to include and encompass many genres and areas of study.  As your cello teacher I will not only teach you the techniques and musicality needed to succeed on the cello through careful instrumental training, but also guide you through the study of the many different elements of music from theory and historical context, to ear-training and ensemble playing. In studying the challenges and nuances of making music, you will discover your own musical voice and create your own personal aesthetic that will accompany you throughout your life.  This close study of music will help you be a better cellist and a more thoughtful and interested individual.

•  I am committed to helping my students grow from their original starting point to help them discover their own musical voice on the cello.

• I believe in a holistic approach to the study of music- including the study of music history, theory, and ear training.

• My cello technique emphasizes healthy and focused movement and is tailored to fit my individual students.  As well as progressing through solo repertoire, we will focus on a structured approach to technical studies and scales, which will give you the ability to play with greater ease and facility on the cello.
